Ifits Spicy Chicken & Chickpea Stew

Well, it’s been all change at Tidy Towers (or rather Tidy Towers has relocated three times) over the last year and half, and I’m kind of ashamed to discover that I only managed four recipes in 2016!

Now that I’m settled, let’s put that to rights with this proper winter warmer! It’s a true Ifits – I wanted to knock together something that was healthy, tasty, warming, and filling, so had a look in the cupboards and rustled up this beauty.

Super-Cheesy Durty Eggy Bread

IMGP3128Yes! Dirty with a “u” because these are sooooo bad they’re good. There’s nothing refined or elegant about this week’s recipe. It’s an oldie I’ve been holding on to for quite some time… before I rejoined fat club!

It’s not pretty to look at, but it sure tastes good! It reminds me of being a kid, when the mothership once amazed me by putting cheese (yes, cheese!) inside eggy bread. Or French Toast as we called it.

I remember her telling me that her dad had used to make it for (maybe with) her, and so it seemed somewhat fitting for Father’s Day.

No matter what day it is, this is quick, tasty, and deeeeelicious!

Ifits Crustless Quickie Quiche

IMGP3503

This is a real quickie this week! The plan was to blog something more substantial… but I had four eggs that needed to be used before shopping arrived and I figured an Ifits was overdue anyway!

This one is perhaps the strangest combination I’ve flung together…. but it worked in the main! Feel free to swap any ingredients you like (as with all Ifits recipes) and as ever, I’ve suggested some tweaks of my own!

Ifits Spicy Baked Rice

IMGP3339

Well it may be a little soon for another fits, but the truth of the matter is I had a week away, and when I came back I couldn’t be bothered shopping! And isn’t that the whole point of Ifits recipes?

This one is a bit on the spicy side, and may not exactly contain ingredients that everybody has lying around… but you know, when you write a food blog, you tend to pick up a few interesting bits and pieces….

Ifits Christmas Dinner Pie

IMGP3160

This is without a doubt the ultimate Ifits recipe! For those who aren’t aware of the term, an Ifits recipe is one made from left-overs – Ifit’s in the fridge/cupboard, we’re having it! And so I present to you a genius recipe for left-over Christmas food!

I do have a confession to make – I had the idea for this recipe long before I had the opportunity to have left-over Christmas dinner, and just had to try it! I bought all the ingredients in (in small quantities) and went for it. The result was so good, that I had a missive from mother insisting that we actually make this for Christmas Dinner proper, instead of the traditional roast! As it turns out, we were subsequently invited to a family affair elsewhere… but I wasn’t off the hook… we had this on Christmas Eve!

The original idea came to me while I was flicking through Lisa Faulkner’s The Way I Cook. She has a Chicken Pie recipe that includes a layer of stuffing in the pastry crust, so that got my mind going. I only really have stuffing with Christmas Dinner (well, unless I visit a Carvery and it’s just there) so my mind instantly turned towards festive food!

The base for the sauce, as well as the idea of the stuffing-in-the-pastry, is adapted from her recipe… the rest is all me.

And remember, it’s an Ifits, so use this only as a template, and chuck in whatever you’ve got!
